"The Three Musketeers was one of the first classical novels I read, and I was instantly enthralled by the brilliantly written characters in this masterpiece by Alexandre Dumas, not forgetting the exciting action and sword play. I was delighted when the BBC adapted the story for television, and over the years have enjoyed the various film versions. The latter have not only given audiences swift action, but much humour as well. We can also be grateful to John Nicolson and Le Nevet Bete, for their skilful comedy and swashbuckling adaptation. I was very pleased to be invited to direct this production, which I hope will give enjoyment to our audiences.
